Studio Policies

Private Lessons

Private piano lessons are provided on a weekly basis in hourly time slots split between piano instruction and music theory/ear training.  Various piano methods are used depending upon the student’s age, hand size, natural ability, and learning style.  Students are expected to practice their assigned pieces a minimum of four days a week, with each piece being worked through at least four times per rehearsal day.

Recitals

Two public recitals are held each year.  All children are required to participate and all adult students are invited to attend.  Music should be memorized except for duets.  There is plenty of seating at the recitals for as many family and friends as each student would like to invite.  Recital attire for performers is generally festive unless we are performing a themed recital.  In those cases, an email with specific instructions will be sent.

The studio calendar with recital dates and other important events will be published on the studio website prior to the start of each teaching year.

Attendance

Time scheduled for each student’s lesson is reserved for his/her exclusive use; rescheduling is only available via lesson swap.  Notification by the student/parent or inability to attend a private lessons does not excuse payment for the lesson, which must be paid for, whether taken or missed.  Lesson swapping arranged between parents is the only method available for rescheduling a lesson.  Please notify the studio of all cancellations or swaps at least 24 hours in advance.  Lessons follow the school calendar but generally do not follow the school minor holiday or teacher in-service days.  The studio calendar is available for viewing by logging into the website at www.joliesjukebox.mymusicstaff.com
